In January I tabled two amendments to the EU Withdrawal Bill to make sure our human rights are protected when we leave the EU.
Parliament was promised that the Government would introduce an amendment forcing Ministers to make a statement before the House of Commons in the presence of any Brexit related primary or secondary legislation on whether and how it is consistent with the Equality Act 2010.
We cannot allow any regression or diminishing of our protections and our rights when we leave the EU.
Some said we should just 'trust the government to get it right'. I disagree. The equality protections and human rights referred to in my amendments have been hard fought for and we cannot put them at risk.
