A 22-year-old woman, Mahsa Amini, was arrested in Iran for allegedly breaking strict hijab rules. She tragically died three days later following injuries suffered in police custody.

As the Shadow Middle East Minister, I’ve written to the FCDO urging the UK to call for an impartial investigation into her death and condemn worrying human rights escalations in Iran, including the discrimination of women and girls by the regime’s morality police, attacks on protestors, and the persecution of LGBTQ+ people.
