Visit to Laurel Park School

Today, I had the pleasure of visiting Laurel Park School and meeting some wonderful students from the Sixth Form.

As well as having a discussion on my role, we talked about their studies and I received a great tour of the building. I always enjoy hearing from young people about their experiences and views on our constituency. Well done Laurel Park!

Arnos Grove Post Office 10 Year Celebration

I attended a wonderful celebration today at Arnos Grove Post Office to mark 10 years of Murtaza and Erdal Gok as postmasters.

They truly go the extra mile for our community and I was very pleased to thank them for all they do. If you’re in the area, pop in to see Murtaza and Erdal!

Visit to Palmers Green Post Office

This morning, I visited my local post office to see Perry, the postmaster. It was great to catch up, and discuss the valuable contribution post offices make to our community and the range of services they can offer.

The Government are currently considering the important feedback from their ‘Future of the Post Office’ consultation and I look forward to reading the response. You can keep updated with this here.

Remembrance Weekend

Over the weekend, I have attended various different events to pay tribute to the bravery of those who fought for our freedom.

On Sunday, I had the honour of laying wreaths at the war memorials in both Enfield and Wood Green to commemorate those who have fallen.

In Parliament, I planted a cross in the House of Commons Gardens of Remembrance on behalf of all my constituents, before attending a Remembrance Service in Broomfield Park today. I laid a wreath in the Garden of Remembrance and heard wonderful wartime music and poetry from local schools.

It has been a privilege to honour those who have served, continue to serve, and have fallen.

Lest we forget.

Crime Walkabout

Following concern from many constituents, I recently wrote to the Council and the Borough Commander about community safety in Enfield.

Last Friday, I organised for the Leader of Enfield Council, Cllr Ergin Erbil, and Cllr Doug Taylor to join me on a walkabout of Palmers Green with the police.

We spoke to local residents about their concerns and looked at what preventative measures can be put in place to deter drug-dealing, ASB, shoplifting, and fly-tipping.

If you are concerned about crime locally, please contact me at bambos.charalambous.mp@parliament.uk ✉

Digital ID

I have written to the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Technology expressing my constituents’ concerns about digital ID.

Official Development Assistance Debate

Today, I spoke in Edward Morello MP’s debate titled ‘Planned reductions in Official Development Assistance on international development.’ As the Chair of the APPG for Global Education, I will continue to champion the transformative power of ODA for the education of children worldwide.

We must continue to fund the life-changing work carried out by the Global Partnership for Education and Education Cannot Wait, along with many more fantastic organisations.

I look forward to seeing the Government restore spending 0.7% of GNI on ODA as soon as the economy allows.

We cannot overlook the power of education. Listen to my speech below.

If you would like to learn more about the APPG for Global Education, you can do so here.

Enfield and the Barnet’s United Nations Association

As part of UN80 celebrations, it was great to attend the unveiling of the newly restored birdbath in Broomfield Park’s Garden of Remembrance.

The Enfield and the Barnet’s United Nations Association have worked hard to restore the birdbath, first given to the park by the League of Nations!
