New Southgate Coffee Morning

This week, I hosted a coffee morning for residents in New Southgate, to discuss their concerns about crime and antisocial behaviour in the local area. We were joined by the police and local councillors.

It was a lovely opportunity to connect with constituents of Southgate and Wood Green and have a real conversation about the issues they care about. These included:

-repeated parking on double yellow lines

-suspected money laundering

-overflowing public bins

In response to the issues raised at the meeting, I have contacted the relevant public bodies and look forward to updating my constituents on the action taken.

If you live in the New Southgate area and want to raise any similar issues, please email me at bambos.charalambous.mp@parliament.uk.

Cyprus APPG Briefing

In response to the situation in the Middle East, Stephen Doughty MP, the Minister for Europe, sat down with members of the APPG for Cyprus today to brief us on the Government’s action on Cyprus and the UK’s Sovereign Bases.

In response to the situation in the Middle East, Stephen Doughty MP, the Minister for Europe, sat down with members of the APPG for Cyprus today to brief us on the Government’s action on Cyprus and the UK’s Sovereign Bases.

I was grateful for the opportunity to discuss the cooperation and coordination of the UK with the Republic of Cyprus in keeping Cyprus, active British personnel, their families and British nationals safe. I was also pleased to receive confirmation that RAF Akrotiri is not being used for any defensive action and the US is not operating from Akrotiri.

I would like to offer reassurance to my constituents that the Government has taken all necessary measures to protect the security of Cyprus.

Road Safety on The Roundway

I first met my constituent, Abi, in 2024 after her fiancé, Mithun, was tragically killed in a crash on The Roundway. Since then, Abi has been tirelessly campaigning for improved road safety in Haringey.

I joined Abi in her calls for improved safety on our streets in Southgate and Wood Green, and continued to raise this with TfL and Haringey Council to push for change. Abi took this on herself, working with RoadPeace to further her campaign around the language used to discuss collisions. Abi even featured in RoadPeace’s guide for supporting constituents following car crashes.

By continously lobbying TfL and the Council, and even asking the very first question at the Mayor of London’s Question Time, Abi achieved real change in Mithun’s memory and made The Roundway safer for residents, pedestrians, and families. At the end of last year, Haringey Council announced 10 speed limit changes across the borough, including The Roundway.

This month, we met to mark the 20mph speed limit change here on The Roundway – a direct result of Abi’s campaigning. We also discussed further measures that could be taken to improve road safety in our local area, and I will continue to support these efforts.

How she has channelled her grief into action is nothing short of admirable. Well done, Abi.

Meeting with New Southgate Constituents

Following correspondence from many of my constituents in the area, I organised a public meeting in Bounds Green this evening. It was great to see representatives from the Council, City Hall, and the police join me to listen to constituent concern.

It is always good to meet more constituents of Southgate and Wood Green and hear their views on local issues.

After my follow up sent this morning, I will be raising your concerns and keeping everyone who attended updated. Thank you to everyone who came!

If there is a local issue you are concerned about, please email me at bambos.charalambous.mp@parliament.uk
