It was a privilege to share my solidarity with those fighting for their rights around the world for International Human Rights Day 2022.

During the debate, as Shadow Middle East Minister I raised the protests in Iran and pressed for the immediate release of Alaa Abd El-Fattah, a prisoner of conscience in Egypt.

I also discussed human rights at home, and the curtailing of the long-standing, fundamental right to protest. We all have the right to freedom of expression and freedom of assembly – and restricting these rights is restricting citizens’ right to express discontent with our government.
