I would like to thank constituents who have contacted me about  amendments to the Environment Bill, which I know has caused concern for many in Enfield Southgate.

I voted to keep the Lords amendment to the Bill which would prevent private companies from being able to dump raw sewage into our rivers and waterways.

However, the Government voted for a weaker amendment on raw sewage which does not require water companies to take action quickly enough, allowing dumping to continue for years to come. It fails to give a specific number or target on sewage pollution.

We need stronger measures to end raw sewage discharges into our rivers and seas. The Conservatives are not moving quickly or being bold enough to tackle this disgusting practice.
