Labour votes to #CancelTheCut to Universal Credit – 18th Jan 2021
The Conservatives have chosen to cut support for families in the middle of a pandemic by slashing Universal Credit. The UK has had the worst recession of any major economy on Boris Johnson’s watch – now he is making families pay the price.
Last night, Labour held an opposition day debate. We called on the Government to cancel the cut to protect 6 million families across Britain. As an opposition whip, I was a teller for the vote. We won by a landslide of 278-0.
