David Lammy has set out Labour’s contract with the British public on foreign policy in a speech to Chatham House.

The Conservatives have left us with a tarnished international reputation and reduced influence around the world. But it doesn’t have to be that way. With the right priorities, the right partnerships and the right values under a Labour government, Britain can and will thrive.

Labour’s vision is for a Britain reconnected, for security and prosperity at home. This includes seeking a new UK-EU security pact, strong armed forces and resilience against 21st century threats; pushing for climate action to become a fourth pillar of the UN; and reforming the FCDO after the disastrous merger with DFID, re-establishing the UK as a trusted, reliable and influential partner while protecting Britons abroad.
