On 20 July I wound up the debate for the 2nd reading of the Nationality & Borders Bill.  This #AntiRefugeeBill is a draconian and dog whistling piece of legislation which will criminalise refugees according to how they arrive in the UK. This contravenes the Refugee Convention which has its 70th anniversary this month. As I said in my speech, the Bill is like the Queen of Hearts – sentencing people first and checking their claim to sanctuary later. It does nothing to provide safe routes for refugees and penalises those fleeing war and persecution.
