On Monday, the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill – which breaks international law and risks the integrity of the Good Friday Agreement – passed Second Reading. However, more than 70 Tory MPs abstained and it’s clear that this proposal will also divide the Conservative Party while it divides the UK and Europe.

With this Bill, Boris Johnson is taking a wrecking ball to the deal he negotiated, signed and campaigned on. Once again, the PM is damaging Britain’s hard-won reputation as a dependable country that plays by the rules.

That’s why I voted against the Bill and will continue to call for the UK to negotiate with all parties and sort this out as quickly as possible.
