An issue that is impacting the lives of many local residents is the Home Office’s failure to deal with well-publicised backlogs, and I am receiving an increasing volume of casework relating to the Home Office – from delays in the Passport Office, the asylum system, visa extensions, citizenship applications and the Ukrainian visa schemes. Sadly, I expect this to continue over the coming weeks.

The Passport Office now has a 10-week target to process applications and many people looking forward to a long-awaited holiday are now facing an anxious wait for a passport, often applied for months ago.

The Government should be clear with people whether the situation is going to get worse before it gets better and take urgent action to address organisational failings.
