Child Trust Funds
I have been pressing the Government to take action and make access to the unclaimed £1.3bn in Child Trust Funds easier for the young people who need and deserve them.
Today, in response to my question, the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Lucy Rigby MP, confirmed that a new scheme is being created to ensure that young people who lack mental capacity can more easily benefit from the money set aside for them.
This is fantastic news for young people who could really benefit from this money but, before now, have been left without a route to access it. You can read more about the announcement and how it will work here: Child Trust Fund injustice to end under Government plans – GOV.UK
I have been working with The Share Foundation on this for a long time, and will continue to call for easier access to ChildTrustFunds for all young people, particularly for those who have no idea their accounts even exist.
