As Shadow Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, I was proud to speak on behalf of the opposition in the Westminster Hall debate on the atrocities against the Yazidi religious community.

Between 2014 and 2017, Daesh committed the most heinous crimes against the Yazidi people in Iraq. There is nothing that can undo this unimaginable suffering and the trauma it has caused, but by showing leadership and formally calling the genocide by its name, we could establish or strengthen international mechanisms for justice.

This is morally and ethically the right thing to do.
