As Shadow Middle East Minister, I secured an Urgent Question this week on the killing of Al-Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Aqla, who was shot while reporting in the occupied West Bank. Her death has shocked the world, and it was not only an outrageous act, but an attack on the freedom of the media and the independence of journalists working around the world.

Shireen’s death must be investigated and those responsible held to account. In Parliament, I urged the Government to stand up for international law and human rights by calling for an independent inquiry into Shireen’s killing and condemning the violent scenes at her funeral last week.
