I voted against the Government’s anti-democratic Elections Bill. I know many constituents are rightly concerned about this Bill. This legislation will reverse decades of democratic progress in the UK and make it harder to working class, disabled, older and Black, Asian and ethnic minority people to vote. It will require voters to show voter ID, which risks denying millions of people their democratic right to vote – while also being a total waste of taxpayers’ money.

My Labour colleagues and I voted against the Bill to protect democracy.
