Endometriosis Action Month

To mark Endometriosis Action month, I met with representatives from Endometriosis UK, Anita Nneka Jones, and Charlotte Henshaw in Parliament. We had an important discussion around the impact endometriosis has on the daily life as well as physical and mental health.

It was great to hear more about how MPs can how support for women’s health.

If you, or someone you know, is struggling with issues relating to endometriosis, please contact Endometriosis UK’s nurse helpline.

World Book Day 2025!

Today is World Book Day!

As the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success, reading for fun matters. It gives children a sense of agency, choice, and empowerment.

Well done to all the parents, carers, librarians, and teachers helping children in Southgate and Wood Green pick up a book & discover reading in their own way!

Presentation of a Petition

Today, I presented a petition to the House on behalf of my constituent, Jane Wessman, to call for free RSV and Shingles vaccines to be extended for those over the age of 80.

Debt Cancellation: Low-Income Countries Debate

As the global debt crises cripples the Global South, I secured a debate on debt cancellation for low income countries. It was great to see so many other MPs show support for this cause and contribute to a productive afternoon in Westminster Hall.

I asked the Govt to support my Debt Relief (Developing Countries) Bill which would:
– compel private creditors to accept the same terms as other lenders
– reduce debt burden for the poorest countries
– cost the Treasury absolutely nothing

Spending more on debt servicing than on health or education cannot continue. The UK must act now.

The Second Reading of my Bill is due to be the 14th March 2025.

Visit to Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School

I had a lovely visit to Our Lady of Lourdes on Friday to meet their school council! We spoke about the similarities in how we were both elected, how children can support their community and what issues matter most to them.

It was great to hear about the positive changes they have made to their school already – introducing reading buddies, improving their facilities, fundraising, and starting a calm club.

Well done to all the school councillors at Our Lady of Lourdes!

Stem Cell Meeting

It was wonderful to meet my constituent Michael Efstratiou’s uncle and daughter, Costas and Ellianna, today in Parliament as they continue their tireless campaign to find a stem cell match for Michael.

Before Christmas, Michael was sadly diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer and urgently needs a stem cell transplant. Due to his Cypriot heritage, it is proving difficult to find a match for Michael.

He needs people to sign up to the stem cell register, in the hope that they could be a match for someone just like him.

Aged 16-30? Sign up to the register today @ https://www.anthonynolan.org/…/michaelsstemcelldrive

Letter to Foreign Secretary

As the decision to ban UNRWA comes into effect, I have signed a cross-party letter to the Foreign Secretary to call for intervention and to protect humanitarian aid going to Gaza.

North Mid Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Centre

On New Years Eve, I joined the Chief Nurse for London, Karen Bonner MBE, to officially open the sickle cell and thalassemia emergency department bypass unit at North Middlesex University Hospital.

I want to thank those who played a huge role in making this bypass unit possible, improving care and securing better outcomes for patients who present to the emergency department with sickle cell disease and thalassemia.

North London Hospice Compassionate Neighbours Event

I had the privilege of attending the Compassionate Neighbours six-year celebration at North London Hospice Enfield on the 12th of December.

The Compassionate Neighbours model is a volunteer led support programme that assists people in the community with life-limiting illnesses to overcome the physical and mental barriers that stop them actively participating within their community.

Having an illness can often feel very lonely for individuals, and the Compassionate Neighbours model offers thoughtful support for those who are socially isolated, so it was an honour to join people from North London Hospice and commemorate the model’s success.

Barnet and Southgate College’s New T-Level Centre

As part of T-Levels Week, on the 6th of December, I had the pleasure of opening the new T-Level Centre at Barnet and Southgate College’s Southgate campus. The newly refurbished centre will act as a hub for developing the workforce of tomorrow with facilities for teaching Engineering, Computing and IT, and Healthcare Science.

Studies here will be supported by state-of-the-art healthcare facilities and T-Level tutor experts to aid students in their courses.

Well done to Neil Coker, their CEO and principal, and all of his colleagues at Barnet and Southgate College! Good luck to all of the students who go on to study their T-Levels here!
