APPG on Cancer in Children and Young People

This month is Children’s Cancer Awareness Month. Every day this month, 10 children will sadly be diagnosed with cancer.

I attended the first meeting of the APPG on Cancer in Children and Young People, chaired by Richard Quigley MP, to learn more about the issues faced by children and young people living with cancer, from financial to medical to education and beyond.

Proposed Closure of the Edmonton Police Station front counter

Please see the letter below from Feryal Clark MP and I regarding the proposed closure of Edmonton Police Station’s front counter.

Victory in Japan Day in Enfield

It was an honour and a privilege to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VJ Day at Enfield War Memorial.

For those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we enjoy today – we will remember them.

North Enfield Foodbank

It was wonderful to meet volunteers Cassandra, Catherine, and Kerry last week at North Enfield Foodbank and see their hard work supporting the local community in action.

It is deeply concerning that demand for foodbanks is so high, with 60 households visiting a day on average.

Things must change, and I am pleased the Government’s Plan For Change is working to tackle this.

Visit to North Middlesex University Hospital

It was wonderful to visit North Middlesex University Hospital on the 8th of August and meet the fantastic staff working hard to deliver the best care for patients.

I was pleased to see the Evan Nathan Smith unit up and running, as well as meet the passionate staff who treat sickle cell and thalassaemia patients. It was also great to visit the amazing maternity unit and learn more about vital research into improving black health outcomes.

Thank you to Nnenna and all of the staff at North Middlesex Hospital!

Students from Gaza

Please see below the letter to the Prime Minister that I have signed to call for safe evacuation routes for Gazan students with scholarships in the UK.

Chariot Festival

It was a pleasure to be at the colourful Chariot Festival this weekend organised by the Enfield Hindu Tamil Cultural Association.

Thank you to Shan and his committee, everyone at the Hindu Temple Edmonton and the stewards for making this cultural event such a success.

North London Bangladesh Mela

It was lovely to attend the North London Bangladesh Mela yesterday in Haringey, and to honour the Mayor of Haringey as the first Mayor of the borough of Bangladesh origin.

Thank you to everyone at Bangla Shur UK for inviting me to join the celebrations!

Health and Social Care Questions

This week, I asked the Minister for Public Health and Prevention if targets for cancer diagnosis, referral, and treatment will be prioritised in the National Cancer Plan.

Listen to her response below, or read her response here.
