Foreign Secretary’s Statement on Gaza

I am horrified at the famine-like conditions in Gaza.

Last night, I asked the Foreign Secretary what steps he is taking to ensure that United Nations NGOs can deliver the aid that Gazans so desperately need.

Listen below.

Education Questions

Today, I asked the Secretary of State for Education if the Government were going to extra efforts to improve teacher retention and recruitment at schools with a high proportion of disadvantaged students.

ASDA Southgate in Parliament

It was wonderful to celebrate 60 years of ASDA in the UK and meet Sejal and Washington from the Southgate Circus store in Parliament.

It was great to discuss ASDA’s community action in Southgate and Wood Green, their partnership with Parentkind, and celebrate the whopping £5,015 raised and donated to local schools. ASDA were joined by many of their charity partners who were pleased to celebrate the nationwide impact the store is having.

Southgate Children’s Literature Festival

This weekend, it was wonderful to be at the Southgate Children’s Literature Festival at St Andrew’s Church and the Halo Theatre, and have the privilege of saying a few words.

It was great to meet so many children’s books authors and to see a buzz about the local area for such an important cause.

Well done to James Okoro and his team for organising such an amazing community event!

Chapmans Green Summer Fair

Over the weekend, I enjoyed a wonderful, sunny day at the Chapmans Green Summer Fair.

The event was full of great food and craft stalls, live music and lots of activities for the kids.

Well done to everyone involved for organising such a successful community event!

Future of Music Education Debate

As co-chair of the APPG for Music Education, it was great to secure a debate on the Future of Music Education.

There has been a steady decline in music teachers, music hubs are being stretched thin, and music education funding is at a standstill. With more direction and leadership from the Government, we can ensure that music is accessible and available to all.

Thank you to the APPG and ISM for your help preparing for this debate.

Mulberry Academy Woodside in Parliament

It was wonderful to meet talented students from Mulberry Academy Woodside today in Parliament, as they take part in the final of the Solutions for the Planet Big Ideas Competition.

It was great to see the students representing Southgate and Wood Green on a national level and presenting their big idea, Ship Valley: transforming unused shipping containers in to portable, affordable homes.

Well done Mulberry Academy Woodside and good luck!

Visit to Minchenden Lodge

It was great to visit Minchenden Lodge Care Home over the weekend for afternoon tea with residents, their families and staff.

It was wonderful to hear their stories and to spend time with them.

Well done to Vijay, Minette, Kimisha and all the staff on organising such a great afternoon!

St Michael at Bowes visit to Parliament

On Monday 16th June, it was wonderful to host the St Michael at Bowes School Council in Parliament. We were even lucky enough to bump in to the Deputy Speaker of the House!

Always a pleasure to give the children a tour and learn more about their roles as school councillors.

On Monday 23rd June, I welcomed the rest of the School Council to Parliament for a tour and Q&A session. It was great to spend time with the councillors and be asked insightful questions about my role as an MP and how the House works.
