Pride in Place Impact Funding

I am pleased to share that Pride in Place Impact Funding is coming to Southgate and Wood Green!

I am delighted the Government have awarded both Enfield and Haringey £1.5m to support our high streets.

I have been in touch with both local authorities and I am looking forward to working closely with both of them to put pride back into our community.

Application for MERKUR Slots at the old Southgate Circus NatWest site

Please see the letter I sent below relaying the concerns of my constituents on the application for MERKUR Slots at Ground Floor, 12 The Broadway, Southgate Circus.

Blue Badge Fraud

I believe that blue badge fraud is a disgrace. Disabled people must be able to access the parking they need.

Today, I went out with the National Agency for Blue Badge Fraud Investigations and Cllr Susan Erbil, Cabinet Member for Planning and Regulatory Services, in Bowes to see first hand the steps they are taking to tackle this issue.

I am pleased to see a new partnership between Enfield Council and the BBFI is working to support the disabled community and end fraudulent use.

If you misuse a blue badge, you will face consequences.

25 Years of Grassroots Football

I was delighted to join England legend Lucy Bronze in celebrating 25 years of the Football Foundation’s investment into the grassroots game yesterday.

Since 2000, Southgate and Wood Green has benefitted from 99 grants worth £2.1m to support community sport. Last season, 149 grassroots football teams were playing on sites that have benefitted from this investment.

The Football Foundation are looking forward to going further with the support of the Premier League, the FA, and the Department of Culture, Media, and Sport.

Victory in Japan Day in Enfield

It was an honour and a privilege to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VJ Day at Enfield War Memorial.

For those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we enjoy today – we will remember them.

North Enfield Foodbank

It was wonderful to meet volunteers Cassandra, Catherine, and Kerry last week at North Enfield Foodbank and see their hard work supporting the local community in action.

It is deeply concerning that demand for foodbanks is so high, with 60 households visiting a day on average.

Things must change, and I am pleased the Government’s Plan For Change is working to tackle this.

Visit to North Middlesex University Hospital

It was wonderful to visit North Middlesex University Hospital on the 8th of August and meet the fantastic staff working hard to deliver the best care for patients.

I was pleased to see the Evan Nathan Smith unit up and running, as well as meet the passionate staff who treat sickle cell and thalassaemia patients. It was also great to visit the amazing maternity unit and learn more about vital research into improving black health outcomes.

Thank you to Nnenna and all of the staff at North Middlesex Hospital!

Chariot Festival

It was a pleasure to be at the colourful Chariot Festival this weekend organised by the Enfield Hindu Tamil Cultural Association.

Thank you to Shan and his committee, everyone at the Hindu Temple Edmonton and the stewards for making this cultural event such a success.

North London Bangladesh Mela

It was lovely to attend the North London Bangladesh Mela yesterday in Haringey, and to honour the Mayor of Haringey as the first Mayor of the borough of Bangladesh origin.

Thank you to everyone at Bangla Shur UK for inviting me to join the celebrations!
